Our pick of the kitchen decor trends for 2022

At Blackbrook Kitchens, we like to stay on top of the latest kitchen design trends.

We keep our eyes on industry news, the new kitchen style directions and trending colours so we can come up with original designs, incorporating contemporary or state-of-the-art elements, but which will also work hard and stand the test of time.

If you’re considering a new kitchen for 2022 but you like to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to style, we’ve gathered a dozen key trends for kitchens in 2022 here. Why not grab a cuppa and have a browse through, and if there are ideas you like, we can help you bring them to life by designing a kitchen to incorporate them.

Combining vintage & contemporary

Incorporating a few characterful vintage or antique elements alongside sleek, modern cabinetry and worktops can really help soften a kitchen design and give it a more easy-going ‘lived in’ look. It also adds interest. A vintage butlers sink, reclaimed wood shelving or mix and match vintage kitchen chairs can really bring a contemporary kitchen scheme to life - and can also be a great way to control your spend if you’re clever about it. We love working on projects with vintage elements and have some great suppliers to source from.

Marvellous marble

We’ve heralded strongly veined marble as the next ‘big thing’ for a while now, and it’s set to be even more popular in 2022. A bold way to add a truly luxurious touch to your kitchen, there is an awesome array of colour combinations to choose from and also plenty of ‘mock marble’ alternatives which achieve a similarly luxe look, with a less hefty price tag. Veined marble doesn’t have to be limited to worktops either. A veined marble splash backs or feature wall can make a really bold style statement. Why not call into the Showroom to see some samples?

Naturally occurring

In alignment with the current focus on sustainability and greener living, there is a clear current trend for incorporating natural materials within new kitchens. Granite, marble and wood are natural choices for flooring, worktops and cabinetry but also incorporating cork feature walls, natural wood furniture and sisal and seagrass accessories can create a beautifully natural feeling kitchen. As well as having a huge range of options for natural worktops and cabinets, we can help you find the perfect natural elements to style your kitchen space.

Smarter functionality

The move towards efficient, energy saving and environmentally friendly appliances will continue for 2022. Whether it’s smart lighting controlled by your mobile phone or coffee made to your exact specifications by ‘Alexa’, there are so many smart solutions for your new kitchen that you’ll barely need to lift a finger. Boiler taps are one of our most popular smart solutions right now. Energy efficient, highly effective and stylish too, if you’d like one within your dream 2022 kitchen, we’d recommend Quooker every time.

Pops of colour

Incorporating one or two bold coloured elements within a kitchen design can really have an impact. A pop of zingy orange within a more neutral coloured space, or a bright turquoise splash back behind sleek white cabinets is a great way to add a focal point or a healthy dose of personality. We can help you come up with a colour scheme for your new kitchen that you love… and if you’d like to add a pop of colour, we can suggest something that really sings.

The dark side

Deep rich blues, dark greens or even black, dark coloured kitchens are sticking around and they’re the best option if you like a little bit of high drama dining. Cosy, atmospheric and romantic, darkly coloured kitchens can be beautifully lit and accessorised with all sorts of glistening and twinkly details. Don’t be afraid - with Blackbrook Kitchens on board, you can step into the dark side full of confidence that your dream kitchen will be forthcoming.

The golden touch

For a long while all we ever saw in kitchens were taps, draw knobs and details that were silver and shiny. Not so any more. Gold in every hue, from brassy to rose to antique is becoming the ‘in colour’ for kitchen fixtures and fittings - and we’re loving it. Perfect as a contrast against dark cabinetry or a great way to give your kitchen a luxurious look, copper and gold taps, handles, accessories and details are here to stay. All you have to do is decide which shade suits you.

Bespoke painted kitchens

Because kitchens with multiple colours are proving to be increasingly popular, it makes sense to opt for bespoke painted cabinetry rather than sticking to an ‘off the shelf’ palette. Having a different coloured island to your high cabinets, or dark floor cabinets and lighter high cabinets can look great and at Blackbrook Kitchens we can provide cabinets that are specially painted in any Farrow & Ball or Little Green paint colour.

Enlightening lighting

Feature lighting of different types and with different purposes is a big focus for 2022. Glamorous pendant lights, carefully positioned dimmable spots and low level lamps are all popping up in on-trend kitchen designs, and we can ensure they’re not an afterthought in your new kitchen too. Considering lighting as part of the initial design consultation, and coming up with solutions that work perfectly with lifestyle demands is key to our process - and one of the things that means our Blackbrook Kitchens design is always cohesive and striking.

Glass partitioning

Although open-plan living is still very much in-vogue, lifestyle changes like working from home or ‘dining in is the new dining out’ mean that compartmentalising an open plan kitchen is often a happy middle ground. Glass partitions allow you to make the most of natural light, but also can create divisions in the space to separate dining and cooking areas or a desk space. Whether it’s retro glass blocks or a patterned or smoked glass panel, we can come up with a gorgeous glass partition solution for your new kitchen.

Ever popular pantries

Separate pantries, or built in pantry cupboards which host a whole load of different storage solutions are still big news for 2022. We’ve already created some fabulous pantries for Blackbrook Kitchens customers so if that’s something that would declutter and dramatically improve your life, get in touch and we can start to design something for you.

Mixed materials

When it comes to the materials in your kitchen, for 2022 more is definitely more. Mixing granite, wood, marble, metal, cork, corian and concrete is a great way to create an eclectic, interesting kitchen that you just can’t help looking at. Innovative materials for splash backs and feature walls can add the wow factor, contrasting textures give you a truly tactile finish to your kitchen. If a multi-faceted kitchen design is what you’re after for 2022, then BlackBrook Kitchens are the team to call.
