Creating a kitchen mood board is a great way to kick start the design process…
A Blackbrook Kitchens consultation session is a chance for you to tell us about your ultimate dream kitchen.
It’s the moment for ‘blue sky’ thinking, for you to share your thoughts on colours, textures and mood - and talk about what you’ll be using your beautiful new kitchen for. We’re very well versed in taking note of what you say, capturing it, finding a way for it to work with your budget, and then translating it into a kitchen design, but it’s also very beneficial if you bring along some visual inspiration to your consultation, to help illustrate what you’re after.
Gathering snippets from interior style magazines or brochures, collecting paint samples, hoarding photos of things you’ve seen when you’re out and about or even just finding an image that evokes the ‘feel’ you’d like your kitchen to instill. This will not only help you get your thoughts and priorities in order in your own head, it’ll also help you communicate those thoughts to us. In fact, if you love leafing through magazines and browsing the internet then we’d definitely encourage you to create a dream kitchen ‘mood board’, made from collated images and swatches, to reflect your kitchen vision.
Online scrap book tool, Pinterest is a treasure trove of interior design inspo.
If you haven’t stumbled across it yet, it’s a visual search engine which allows you to find pictures, articles and illustrations of pretty much anything and everything. You can create individual online pin boards and collect images you love of whatever topics you’re interested in. It works particularly well for interior projects because you can collect images of paint swatches or colour themes as well as kitchen interior photos, kitchen equipment, worktops, cupboards and fixtures and fittings, all together on one handy digital board. Pinterest enables you to focus on the overall style and feel that you’d like for your kitchen… or get into the detail - whatever you prefer. Then when you come into the showroom for your consultation, we can look at your boards and come up with a fabulous kitchen solution together.
Another mood board builder option is Canva. It’s a free app that is great for all kinds of creative digital projects, but it’s also great for building simple and stylish mood boards in next to no time. It will lay all your pictures and swatches out beautifully too so it’s very satisfying! Just take photos of the bits and bobs you want to include on your mood board with your phone (or screen grab them from the internet) and you can add them into Canva to get a tidy layout that captures all your wishes and whims. Simple.
If you prefer to be a bit more ‘old school’ with your kitchen design mood board, then that can be just as brilliant.
Pasting pages from magazines, sticking paint swatches down and adding pictures from catalogues onto a sheet will create an excellent inspirational mood board to capture your vision. You can then bring it along to your kitchen design consultation or just email us a photo and it’s bound to help us understand exactly what makes you tick.
