When it comes to kitchen design, it’s all in the detail…

The difference between a nice kitchen and a fabulous kitchen often comes down to the detail.

Choosing an overall colour theme for your kitchen can be the easy part, whether the inspiration comes from a stylish example spotted in a magazine, a country style kitchen browsed on Pinterest or a kitchen you coveted during a visit to a friend’s for dinner. Generally, it’s the colour of the cabinets and walls that often lead the way.

Once you’ve decided on your cabinet colour and style, the worktop tends to be the next step as it’s such a key (and visible) feature. Choosing your appliances is also an early job as a kitchen design often hinges on exactly where the oven will sit or how far it is from the fridge to the dining table (not to mention that the appliances can eat up a fair bit of the budget). Then it’s a case of tying everything together with gorgeous tiles.. and that’s a lot of the key boxes ticked.

However, there’s a lot more to creating the perfect kitchen than just those elements.

Stopping planning at this point and leaving everything else to be decided later is not your best bet. If you can cover everything off and make sure you have solutions for each nook and cranny of the kitchen, you’re much more likely to get a fully cohesive kitchen design that covers all the practicalities. If you’re after a kitchen with a serious wow factor, consider the details within your overall kitchen design… and yes, that’s the way we work at Blackbrook Kitchens.

Finding the perfect handles, for example, can be quite tricky.

Do you want your handles to make a statement or be subtle and concealed? Will you need a different type for cupboards and drawers? Which finish will co-ordinate most beautifully with the rest of the kitchen and particularly the appliances? And is it going to be possible to find exactly what you’re after, but keep within your budget? If you’re thinking that all sounds like a bit of a headache - don’t worry… finding the ideal handles and knobs is exactly the kind of thing we’re experts at.

Once you have your gorgeous new kitchen installed, you’re not going to want to be bothered by drawers that bang or have their contents slipping about all over the place - but the time to decide on soft close cabinets and drawer tidies and compartments is ideally before all the cabinets go in.

There’s a lot more to taps than you might think too.

There are so many designs, shapes, styles and functions available that careful consideration with your day to day life in mind is really important. If you’ve opted for a deep Belfast style sink because you generate a lot of washing up and sometimes need to scrub down the dog - you’re going to need a robust tap - possibly with a hose. If you can’t get through the day without a dozen cups of tea, you might want to consider a hot water tap. If your kitchen is small and stylish then suitably dainty taps are required. Or if you’re all about industrial style, we’re here to help you source some suitable rustic vintage style tap pulls to fit in with the overall kitchen look.

So when it comes to kitchen design detail,  at Blackbrook Kitchens, we think your lifestyle should lead the way.

If you have a collection of vintage glassware, why not show it off within your kitchen design? If you’re a keen baker, let’s make sure there’s a stand for your recipe book. If you can’t stand clutter, we can make sure that your tea towels have a dedicated space to hang and you’ve got plenty of small draws to keep your paperwork filed tidily. Or if you have every kitchen gadget under the sun, we can ensure there’s a space for everything… and you can easily get to it all.

Sometimes having someone who knows exactly which questions to ask in order to identify your design priorities and which design details are all-important can make all the difference. At Blackbrook Kitchens we’ve learnt over the years how to glean every bit of information we need in order to design you the kitchen of a lifetime… and we never overlook the details.
